About Fairfax BSCC

The origin of the Black Social & Culture Committee can be accredited to great minds and the hearts of servants. While planning a service project to feed the homeless, Founder DeShane Jones and Joshua Alexander, owner of Mackenzie’s Tunes & Tonics discussed how to cultivate spaces for black people in the city of Fairfax, Virginia through different programs and events. DeShane shared the idea with his sorority sister and Founder, Etlin Flores. A true visionary with a vast experience with community organizing, Etlin is a Community Director at George Mason University with a strong pulse for the needs of the black student population. An inaugural mixer was held on November 30th, 2023 at Mackenzie’s Tunes and Tonics. Since its inception, the committee has been devoted to establishing a vibrant presence in the community by promoting Black business, Black food, Black fashion, and Black Joy.
